DIGS (Digital Imaging Group SaddleBrooke), aka the SaddleBrooke Photography Club, started its 2014-15 season on Saturday, September 13.

President John Triebe introduced several guests and new members after welcoming the DIGS membership back from their summer activities.

To open the new season Bill Zadina presented a detailed review of Adobe Lightroom.

Lightroom is used by serious amateur and professional photographers for organizing, editing and managing their photos. It can be used independently or in conjunction with Adobe’s Photoshop and Photoshop Elements editing programs; plus other editing programs known as plug ins.

Photographers who use Lightroom typically use it as the first stage of their workflow process by importing the photographs from their camera’s media cards into a folder in Lightroom.

Bill Zadina discussed how to set up and use Lightroom to optimize its organization and storage facilities. Included in the discussion were recommended processes for establishing a consistent filing system, for using key words to identify photos and for culling and ranking photos to identify the keepers to be edited, displayed, shared and printed.

October Meeting: Vice President Bill Todd announced that Jim Cowlin, a professional photographer from Oracle, will present a program on Photography in the National Parks that are located along the U.S. 89 Highway at the October 11 meeting. U.S. 89 runs through Arizona from the Mexico border and continues to the Canada border.

Photo Outings: Dan Garand reviewed his plans for DIGS’ organized group photo outings including the Desert Museum, the Tucson Day of the Dead Parade, Aravaipa Canyon, Pima Air Museum and the Tucson Rodeo. He also shared plans for individual photo assignments including Street Photography and Shadows.
