Dems welcome Soroptimists

At their October monthly meeting the SaddleBrooke Democrat Club packed the Activity Center to welcome Laura Pauli and Sally Haslett of SaddleBrooke who currently serve as co-presidents of the Soroptimists International of Desert Tucson.

On a local level, Soroptimists International of Desert Tucson (SIDT) is “a service club of volunteers” focusing on education opportunities for girls in the greater Tucson area, raising in excess of $600,000 for their programs, $100,000 of which they apply to education programs and awards. SIDT has also combined to provide 10,000 hours of direct service and mentoring for girls in the Tucson area.

Two featured programs around which SIDT directs its energy are Live Your Dream and Dream It; Be It.

Live Your Dream addresses single mom scholars, providing the financial support for continuing their education and increasing their opportunity for success. The Dream It; Be It program directs both time and resources to high school girls. The SIDT volunteers provide valuable experience and mentoring time.

The meeting also included energized activity related to the upcoming elections and concluded with a chili fest featuring 12 pots of homemade chili.

The Dem Club’s next met on November 6 for an ‘Election Victory Celebration’ at the Mesquite Grill.
