Day and night classes to learn ballroom dancing

The SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club is pleased to offer both day and night ballroom dance classes. If you think learning to ballroom dance might be fun, join us. Our classes are so popular that they fill up quickly so contact the instructors right away to sign up for lessons.

Dance classes are held on Wednesdays. Daytime lessons are from 10:00 a.m.-noon in the Vermilion Room at the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse. Evening dance lessons are from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Mariposa Room at the DesertView Clubhouse. Review sessions, held on Saturdays from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Vermilion Room, provide an opportunity to practice ballroom dancing including what you were taught in lessons.

Dance classes are free for members so join the Ballroom Dance Club for only $15 per year. To join, go to our club website at www.sbballroomdance.com.

December Classes

Sign up now for the December daytime class, which is American Rumba taught by Bob Osborne. This is a Latin-style slow dance that works with a wide variety of music. Class dates are December 5, 12, 19 and 26. The beginners’ class is 10:00-11:00 a.m.; the intermediate class is 11:00 a.m.-noon. Bob will provide a CD of Rumba music and written dance steps for the beginners. To sign up, contact Bob at [email protected]. Dancers without partners are welcome. Participants are encouraged to change partners during the class so that everyone gets to dance. Rotating partners helps to learn dance steps more quickly.

The December evening class is Night Club Two Step with Brian Hand and Sheila Honey. Over 30 people have signed up to learn this slow dance that works with a wide variety of music.

January Classes

The January daytime class is Cha Cha with instructor Walt Teike. Class dates are January 9, 16, 23 and 30. Cha Cha is a fun, creative Latin dance. This class is open to all wishing to dance. The first hour will introduce beginning steps; the second hour will provide review and practice. To sign up, contact Walt at [email protected]. It’s best to register in advance but late walk ins may come on the first day.

The January evening class is American Foxtrot with instructors Dave Poferl and Mary Borkovec. Dave and Mary, assisted by Tom Borkovec, will emphasize Foxtrot fundamentals and steps geared mostly for beginners with some attention to more advanced patterns. They provide students with effective and fun lessons. Class dates are January 9, 16, 23 and 30. To sign up, contact Dave at [email protected].

Future Classes

Future daytime dance classes include American Tango with Walt Teike in February, Argentine Tango with Mary & Tom Borkovec and Dave Poferl in March, American Waltz with Silke Gsching in April, International Rumba with Dave Poferl and Mary and Tom Borkovec in May, and East Coast Swing with Walt Teike in June.

Future evening dance classes include Viennese Waltz with Phil and Anne Doyle in February, Rumba with Ann and Tom Kurtz in March, West Coast Swing with Brian Hand and Sheila Honey in April and Bachata with Vivian Herman and Ron Reich in May.
