Cowgirls, comedians and chippers at SBWGA

Carmela Pankey

Happy 2016 to all. This is my first assignment as publicist for the SBWGA. I am really looking forward to reporting all the exciting events going on this year.

Nancy Huffman, membership chair, introduced six new members to our association which shows this year is starting off with a lot of energy. We welcome you and are all eager to get to know you on and off the course. Each of the new members has a big sister to help her learn the ropes. This program initiates the new members in a warm and welcoming way. Thanks to Geri Sandilands, Sarah Earnest, Eleanor Kehlenbeck, Chris Crum, Phyllis Sarrels and Patti Pratti for volunteering to take part in this fun and worthwhile adventure.

Our new President Brenda Brown led a lively and fun filled luncheon and business meeting. She may have a second career as a stand-up comedian. We love you, Brenda, and wish you all the best this year.

In recognition of the Tucson Rodeo, Lee Ann McClelland and Jean Molitar, tournament co-chairs, chose a western theme for the upcoming 3 Jills and a Jack tournament to be held on February 23. So lasso a cowboy and the rest of your posse for a fun day of golf.

Congratulations to Sandra Murray who received the award for the most improved player. She had some big challenges this year and still managed to do what all of us want to do—improve!

Chip-ins were plentiful with seven ladies sharing the honors. Barbro Sultan was very impressive with two chip-ins to her credit. Ann Chatham, Deb Finn, Veronica Lewis, Diane Cathey, Jo Ann Turner and Judy Melo were the rest of the winners.

Good news for those of us who are forgetful or can’t decide if they can participate on Tuesday Play Day, the deadline for reserving your tea time has been extended to Thursday evening. The new email address is [email protected]. Thanks to our board for providing a new way to participate in our weekly play day.

I am looking forward to a great year of golf and for reporting news for the SBWGA.
