Comings and goings at SBWGA

Ret Convey

The SBWGA’s pace of play is as fast as ever, and keeping track of everyone’s golf adventures both here and away takes all the focus we have!

On the home front: Sally Drennen and Mary Ribacchi kicked the year off right with holes-in-one. The ladies accomplished that feat within weeks of each other on SaddleBrooke No. 2, and we send applause and congratulations.

Molly Fullerton won the January ACE day competition with a gross score of 79, and Jean Molitor shot a 65 to win her place as low net ACE. Congratulations to both for a job well done!

For the second year in a row the Birdie Bandits took home the coveted SaddleBrooke Cup on January 23. The tournament started with a surprise shotgun due to a frost delay, but the morning chill quickly gave way as the Stingers and Bandits went head to head playing the three formats in glorious Arizona weather.

Turning to other venues, our Kachina team travelled to beautiful Green Valley Country Club for a great day of golf and lunch on January 8. Congratulations go to Barb Turriff and her team for coming in second place.

We also congratulate Kerry Crowell (gross) and Judy Melo (net), our State Medallion winners of 2017. Molly Fullerton, the first alternate, stepped in for Kerry to compete at the Oakwood Golf Club in Chandler on January 9, where she and Judy ranked fourth in their flight.

Best wishes to all our members for a wonderful year of golf in 2018, and may you have fun, no matter where your ball leads you!
