Broadway came to SaddleBrooke

Steph Mattie

Wow! What a whirlwind time for the SaddleBrooke Singers, as we have just finished the season with our April 6 and 8 concerts. We were delighted to raise the curtain on our presentation of Everything’s Coming Up Broadway. Not only did the audience hear some of their favorite medleys performed by the Singers, but they were treated to some of Broadway’s most memorable tunes. In my article last month, I stated that the show included selections from My Fair Lady, Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story and Les Miserables in the April show. Well, we also highlighted pieces such as Another Op’nin’, Another Show, Everything’s Coming Up Roses and medleys of Manhattan Melodies and On with the Show. We hope you were able to join us for this lively and entertaining salute to Broadway!

Beginning this month and in upcoming articles, I would like to highlight some of our individual members so you can get to know our SaddleBrooke Singer group a little better. Let’s start the “Meet the Singers” segments with Jay Hansen, the SaddleBrooke Singers President for 2018. He brings a lot of energy and personality to the Singers. Before coming to SaddleBrooke two years ago, his only stage experience was singing and playing guitar for children at the church in Oregon that he and his wife Jean attended. After seeing a production at DesertView, he realized what a jewel it is to have this theater in our own backyard. Since moving here, Jay has joined the Community Church of SaddleBrooke Choir, the Barbershop Chorus, as well as the SaddleBrooke Singers. Needless to say, he seems to be making up for lost singing time. In Jay’s own words: “It is such a joy to rediscover yourself and surround oneself with likeminded people. The SaddleBrooke Community is as special as the beautiful Catalinas that serve as a backdrop. People here really are blessed. They are so friendly and genuinely happy to be here celebrating their golden years together.”

In closing, the SaddleBrooke Singers would again like to thank our sponsors, whose contributions help promote local talent right here in SaddleBrooke. Your backing and support has helped us bring the sights and sounds of Broadway music to our SaddleBrooke community. We would also like to thank the wonderful audiences who attended our December and April concerts. It is our pleasure to perform for such an enthusiastic and appreciative crowd. The SaddleBrooke Singers Organization is comprised of SaddleBrooke residents and has been presenting programs to the community for almost 25 years.
