“Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.” These veritable words were brought to life by twenty-five members of the SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club who threw themselves a party on April 13 to celebrate what we often try to forget—our birthdays! This wasn’t your boring cake and candle event, this was a bash complete with colored balloons, a magic show, games and, of course, lots of line dancing. Music for the party was created by our own calendar girl and program manager Linda Weiss. During our first break from dancing, we were amused by the magical tricks of three prestidigitators-—SwirleyTwirley Shirley (Miller), Madonna-Donna (Erickson) and our MC Lynne Kumza-—who confounded the audience by doing something mysterious with a needle and a balloon. We’re still not quite sure what it was but it did have the ultimate result of making the balloon disappear!

After more dancing, we celebrated our untold years with chocolate cake and a birthday song dedicated to “your name here.” And that’s when things became shamelessly juvenile. Led by our resident third-grader and social chairman Lynne Kumza, we assembled 24 chairs for a fiercely competitive game of musical chairs. Congratulations to victor, Jeanne Fernandez, who claimed the final chair, thus proving she has the fastest caboose in the west!
