Ballroom dancing – wish we had been there

Ruth Birkhead

The first Thursday evening in August my dance partner (and husband) and I went to the SaddleBrooke Clubhouse for dinner. Much to my delight there were 10 or so couples on the dance floor. We couldn’t hear the music but I could see the dancers. There were a couple or two who I know have been ballroom dancing for a number of years. There were also some couples who are beginners dedicated to practicing at every opportunity. I have been sidelined all summer with a bad hip so dancing has been pretty much out of the question. I wished that we could have joined them, but I was happy to see the gathering and to know that ballroom dancing is thriving in SaddleBrooke.

If you are new to ballroom dancing or just need to reawaken the memory of past dances, there are numerous opportunities. The Let’s Dance Club offers classes to both beginners and more advanced dancers. These classes are taught by amateur, but accomplished, members of the club. The 2016/17 schedule of classes is available by emailing a request to [email protected]. The lineup includes Rumba, Fox Trot, Waltz, Samba, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Latin Hustle, West Coast Swing and an Introduction to Fusion Dancing.

Practice sessions abound including Saturday mornings 10:00 a.m. to noon and Wednesday afternoons 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. both at SaddleBrooke Clubhouse. Sunday afternoon dance sessions are 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the MountainView Clubhouse. In addition the ballroom dance clubs sponsor several dinner dances throughout the year. These dance opportunities are sponsored by the Let’s Dance Club and the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club. These two clubs have a combined membership fee of $10 per person per year. Membership gives you access to the activities of both clubs. Updated information is available on our Facebook page – Let’s Dance Club of SaddleBrooke.
