On September 23, 2017 three female swimmers and one male swimmer represented SaddleBrooke Master’s swim team; Lyn Moreno, Allison Lehman, Samantha Martoni and Craig Schaffer participated in the third annual Jamina Winston swim meet in Mesa, Arizona. Lyn and Allison participated in this meet for the last two years. They had such a good time they decided to do it again. It was a challenging meet drawing top notch swimmers from all over including a former Olympic Swimmer. All proceeds went to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

These three ladies and one gentleman spent time preparing and training for the meet on their own. Points were earned by placing in each event and the cumulative score accounted for overall placement in the meet. It should be noted that this was a 25 meter pool; a bit longer than the DesertView pool.

Lyn Moreno, current vice president of the SaddleBrooke Swim Club, improved her times in four of the five events she swam. She knocked off a total of almost 25 seconds from her previous best times. Her top performance was on the tough 200 IM (Individual medley), two lengths of each stroke: butterfly, back, breast and freestyle where she improved her best time by almost 11 seconds!

Allison Lehman swam five events; the 50, 100, 200 back, the 200 breast and the 100 freestyle. She took three first places, one second place and one third place. She had a personal best in the 200 breast stroke! She competed against seven other women in her age group and took second highest point winner in her age group, missing the highest point in her age group by one point.

Samantha Martoni had a good meet swimming the 50, 100, 200 breast, 400 IM and 200 fly. She took high point for her age group! There were 10 women in her age group.

Craig Shaffer swam the 200 fly, the 100 back and the 200 back; a personal best by shaving two seconds off his time. There were seven men in his age group.

The three SaddleBrooke women scored 275 points, placing them third in the meet! Just 26 points shy of second place by a Prescott swim team. A fine performance by our SaddleBrooke women.

It should be noted that these ladies never competed in swimming before joining the SaddleBrooke Swim Club.
