The following is a short survey of the new Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra season starting on October 10. Returning will be Linus Lerner on the podium and most of last season’s players. The programs will include symphonies by Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, Dvorak and Vaughan Williams, concertos by Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Barber and Harberg and the Youth Concerto Competition winner, overtures of Brahms and Sibelius and exciting works by Morton Gould and Jose Pablo Moncayo.

Some very talented soloists will be featured including Sheryll McManus, piano; Christi Amonson, soprano; Emily Sun, violin; Brett Deubner, viola; and the Stankov team of Ivo, violin and Lachezar, piano.

The opening concert will be performed at SaddleBrooke at 7:30 p.m. on October 10 and in Oro Valley on October 11 at 3:00 p.m. and features the very emotional Symphony No. 6 of Tchaikovsky. Other concert dates are at SaddleBrooke November 7, February 6, April 2 and May 7 all at DesertView Performing Arts Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.; at Oro Valley in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church November 8, January 31, April 3 and May 8 all on Sundays at 3:00 p.m.; at Green Valley at 7:00 p.m. at Valley Presbyterian Church on Fridays February 5 and April 1.
