Adventure Club members rapel off a cliff face on Mount Lemmon

Mike Wolters

The Adventure Club held a new outing in February that really got the adrenaline going for ten club members; the art of lowering oneself off a vertical cliff face called rappelling. The club used Wild West Climbing out of Tucson for professional rock climbing instruction and they were amazing. The scene of the adventure was the rock climbing practice crag located below the Windy Point overlook about half way up the Mount Lemmon Highway. The vertical cliff face was about 75 feet in height. The climbing guides, Wade and Brooke, set up climbing ropes from anchors atop the rock wall from which everyone got to do numerous rappels to the bottom of the crag. Our certified climbing guides instructed everyone on the proper rappel technique, as well as providing a climbing harness and safety climbing helmet for each adventurer. A fun day in our beautiful Catalina Mountains was had by all!
