Art in galleries is engaging, but art seen in the artists’ own studios, in historic ranches and barns, with the artists themselves there to talk about their work, is a special experience, one available to all who visit Oracle Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17, when the town’s art community will welcome visitors to the 24th annual Oracle Artist Studio Tour.

The work is as diverse as the artists themselves—paintings in oil, watercolor and encaustic, decorative and functional pottery, photography, handmade paper, glasswork, clay and metal sculpture, jewelry, knitting and quilting and turned wood. There is work in virtually every medium, sold directly by the people who make it.

Finding the studios is easy. The Welcome/Visitor Center at 1470 American Avenue will provide self-guiding maps plus a preview display of the artists’ work. This year 43 artists are showing at 17 locations. Pick up your map and follow the purple roadside signs to meet the artists and see their work.

At Arcadia Ranch Museum Val Bembenek’s handmade books and papier mache, Glenda Neff’s pottery, Risa Waldt’s oil and watercolor paintings, Laura Stiltner’s ceramics and jewelry and Rich Vokoun’s gourd art will be featured.

At Studio 157, Gregg Jacob and Linda Tabler feature photography. Along American Avenue are the individual studios of Jenny Kilb (paintings, digital art) Jerry Parra (metal sculpture, yard art) and Christopher Lucic (magical images).

Karen Medley and Margy Smith will show fun and functional pottery and mutimedia acrylic, metal and wood at Medley Studio. Two watercolorists, Karen Guss and Patty Guertin, will show at Karen Guss Studio.

Stop by Rancho Linda Vista, Oracle’s historic artists’ colony to see Joy Fox’s sculpture and wall reliefs, Andrew Rush’s prints and watercolors and the work of visiting artist Joe Hatton.

Other artists showing at group locations and individual studios include Ethyl Amator, Sue Armbrust, Carolyn Blair, Quentin Branch, Alicia Bristow, Diana Creighton, Barbara and Jim Cowlin, Valeska Victoria Cromer, Suzie Daigneault, Anna-Maria Dickinson, Patty Guertin, Karen Guss, Sarah Hardin, Joe Hatton, Christopher Holleman, Sharon Holnback, Huntting Jessup, Dianna Newell, Joel Nilsson, Pamela Nilsson, Elvia Schwenke, Don Spaulding, Laura Stiltner, Julie Szekely and Judith Walsh.
