For the 2nd year in a row, SaddleBrooke Masters hosted the United States Masters Swim Pool Distance Invitational Meet. The two-day meet was held March 16-17th at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center. On Saturday there was the 1650-yd. swim and the 1000-yd. swim. On Sunday the pool was set up long course for the 1500-meter swim. In addition to competitors from Arizona, swimmers traveled from out-of-state to compete in this meet. A couple I met from New Mexico said they loved this meet after doing it last year and returned to compete again this year. Fifteen SaddleBrooke swimmers competed in this meet and seven of them did all three events (Ann Lowry, Jill Fritz, Jack Fritz, Bev Schulz, Steve Truesdale, Dave Taylor and Stan Strebig) receiving a special Conquistador Award. Numerous members of the SaddleBrooke Swim Club, plus friends and family volunteered at this event checking in swimmers, timing, counting, cheering, setting up/tearing down equipment and various other tasks necessary to hold the event. Many thanks to the SBM coaches (Doug Springer, Steve & Debi Truesdale, Ann Lowry, Jay Selnick, Mark Randall) and the SaddleBrooke Swim Club members who officiated at the event (Joyce Howard, Jeff Eighmy, Jay Selnick). The weather was perfect with sunny conditions and in the 70s although chilly in the early morning. Next year we hope to have an even greater turnout for this Pool Distance Invitational Swim Meet.
