This year’s event was played on March 30 and 31 at The Preserve Golf Club and The MountainView Golf Course, respectively. Ninety-seven players, arranged in nine flights, signed up for the two day tournament and everyone hoped that the miracle of good golf and good luck would accompany them for thirty six consecutive holes of play. After the completion of play on Thursday, our monthly luncheon was once again held at the MountainView Ballroom and all past presidents of the MPMGA were recognized for their service to the organization and, of course, many prizes and trophies were awarded to those who had their prayers answered. Before we get to the good stuff, here is one small piece of information that demonstrates just how competitive this tournament has become. Twenty-five players, twenty-six percent of the field, recorded net scores below par. Congratulations to all of you for great performances in less than ideal weather.

Okay, the flight winners were Grant Farquhar with a net score of 140, Mick Borm with a net 143, Eric Vonderheid with a net 131, Bill Burnett with a net 135, Kirk Goodwin with a net 138, Al Tracy with a net 139, Mark Connell with a net 141 and Pete Schwartz with a net 141. Fantastic golf, gentlemen—Congratulations to all! Now for the really good stuff—Harry Clausen shot a net 63 on Wednesday at the Preserve and followed that great score with a net 66 at MountainView on Thursday. Yes, his combined score of 129 is fifteen under par for the two rounds. Unbelievable! Harry is currently the Handicap Chairman for the MPMGA and I am confident his committee will begin an audit of his index—soon.

The President’s Cup is one of the major events on the MPMGA’s schedule of tournaments and there are many that need to be recognized for the work they did to make this year’s event special. To David Cohen, Special Event Chairman of the MPMGA and his entire staff, we send many thanks for a job well done. To our Corporate Sponsors, Lexus of Tucson and Golf Cars of Arizona, who continue to provide us the opportunity to win a new Lexus or a new Club Car, we thank you a bunch for your continued support. To Mike Jahaske and his Pro Shop staff we offer once again our thanks for all you did to make our event special. Finally we thank Shannon Adragna and all the Banquet Staff for providing us a scrumptious meal at our closing luncheon. Thank you all one more time.
