The 2014 SMGA Match Play Tournament was held over a four day period of March 22, 26, 27 and 29 with a one day qualifying round played on March 19. This annual SMGA tournament follows the same format as the Accenture World Golf Championships Match Play Tournament which has been held at Dove Mountain for the past several years. It pits each seeded player in a bracket like the final four in basketball with each winner moving on to play the winner of a competing pair in his half of the bracket.
This year there were four championship flights with two consolation flights for those who lost their first match in the tournament.
Overall winner in the First Flight was Bob Galusha who bested Tony Califra. Third and fourth places were Mike Turner and Ron Walter.
Second Flight was won by Mike Levy who defeated Jack Coonce. Third and fourth places were Andy Baravik and Nick Frances.
Third Flight was taken by Terry Sterling over Gary Hillerud. Third and fourth places were Tom Albaugh and Joe Pataki.
Fourth Flight winner was Al Towle defeating Randy Spencer. Third and fourth places were Dick Bogen and Don Rosenkrans.
The Consolation Flights were won by Bob Lapine over Dave Fosmire in the First Flight and Dave Hargrave over Virg Rogge in the Second Flight.
Congratulations to all Match Play winners. Match play flight champions will have their names engraved on the SMGA Match Play Championship Plaque and displayed on the wall outside the Pro Shop.
